Hasaacas   Vs   Olympics.

Yusif Basigi's Hasaacas will be welcoming Accra base Great Olympics in the 25th week fixture at the Sekondi Sports stadium this weekend. This encounter is very cagey for Olympics who are 15th on the league table with 29 points. Olympics will somehow have the bragging rights going into this match since they won the first encounter at the Ohene Djan stadium  by two goals to nil.

In contrast, it is a tall order for Olympics simply because Hasaacas are yet to lose a game in their last 12 home matches played in the league. They have won 9 and drawn 3, scored 22 and conceded 7. Olympics, on the other has played 12 matches as guest to other clubs in the league. They have won 1 (against Liberty), lost 8 and drawn 3. They have let in 15 goals and scored a paltry of 5 goals.

This clash will be Hasaacas fourth time of meeting Accra base clubs in the league. They have won 2 (against Inter Allies and Liberty) and drawn 1 (Hearts of Oak), scoring 6 and conceding 3 in their process. Quite interestingly, Olympics have scored only 1 in their last 6 outings whiles Hasaacas has also conceded only 1 goal at home in their last 5 matches played in the league. On level grounds, both clubs have 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 drawn game in their last 5 matches. This will be an insurmountable task for Olympics to turn the tables around against 7th placed Hasaacas who has shown an impressive performance in home matches.

One official of Olympics was heard on air saying they are now beginning to play their league matches and with 6 matches to go, let's see what happens in their battle to stay in the league.

Ashanti Gold   Vs   Liberty Proff.

The Obuasi Len Clay park won't be a  fertile ground for any visiting club as the league leaders Ashanti Gold are without a win in their last two matches which has seen second placed Berekum Chelsea cutting their seven points lead to just two points. Liberty will have to take the bull by its horn if they are to cause any surprise and stir in the Obuasi township this weekend. The atmosphere will be very much unpleasant for Liberty as the miners will by fair means want to extend their lead at the top pending any unfavorable results at the Berekum Golden City Park.

The last 23 meetings between these two clubs has seen Ashanti Gold winning 10, losing 6 and drawing 7. 44 goals has been produced in their clashes. Ashgold has score 24 and let in 20 goals. This will be Ashanti Gold's fourth time of meeting Accra base clubs in the league. They are yet to lose a game in their three meetings with them, winning two and drawing 1. On the flip side, Liberty are yet to win a match and score as well in Ashanti Region against Ashanti base clubs, losing 1-0 against Kotoko and drawing goalless with New Edubiase. Liberty are yet to win a match away from home in the league, losing 6 and drawing 6, scoring 4 and conceding 14. Ashanti Gold has a 100% record at home in their 12 matches played. They are yet to lose a match at home, winning 9 and drawing 3. They have whacked in 19 and let in 6 goals. To add to their records, Ashgold are yet to concede at home in 180 mins of football. Quite sadly, both clubs have 1 win, 3 losses and 1 drawn game in their last 5 matches in the league.

Ashgold fluff their chances in their game against Kotoko last weekend to extend their lead when Chelsea lost 2-1 to Bechem United. The miners could do a double over Liberty this weekend as they won the first leg by 0-1

WAFA   Vs   Bechem United.

High flying WAFA will once again dazzle their supporters in Sogakope to a Barcelona-like kind of football as they play home to Brong Ahafo side Bechem United. Their style of play is the entertainment kind with free flow football and sweet inter-positional switches by players. Very sumptuous. There is nothing one could do than to clap when WAFA are in their elements. They did same against current champions Asante Kotoko and won by a goal to nil.

A morale booster for WAFA against Bechem United as the disciplinary committee cleared their coach, John Killa of any wrong doings in their clash against New Edubiase in Kumasi as he was sent to the dressing room in the first half for allegedly spitting on the fourth referee. He will be at the bench to streamline things for WAFA to help them pick a win against Bechem United. WAFA will be hoping Bechem's away woes continue as they drew one all in the first round and count on it to help them pick the maximum three points making it four in all.

Ironically, 4 points separates them on the league log as WAFA has 36 whiles Bechem also has 32. Interestingly, WAFA is 5th whiles Bechem is coolly placed 12th on the league table. A huge task awaits Bechem as WAFA has won 9 matches at home, lost 1 and drawn 2 in their 12 matches played at home. Shamefully, Bechem has ONLY 1 draw and lost 11 in 12 away matches. They have conceded  23 scored 8 and still yet to win an away match. In their last 5 matches, both have 3 loses and 2 wins.

Bechem's best will be a draw game as WAFA returns home after their defeat to Liberty last week.

Berekum Chelsea  Vs  Medeama SC

These two clubs have met 9 times dating back to 7th Nov, 2010. Chelsea has won 3, lost 5 and drawn 1. 15 goals has been produced in their clashes with Chelsea scoring 7 and conceding 8. Chelsea are currently second on the league table with 39 points whiles Medeama are also 9th with 33 points. This is no fluke for Chelsea as former Mighty Jet's attacker Kofi Owusu and Stephen Baffour are the best pair in the league so far scoring more than 17 goals between them. On the side of Medeama, Nathaniel Asamoah leads the goal king charts with 16 goals but it seems his goals aren't enough to push them to challenge for the title as they are 9th on the league table.

Chelsea have drawn only one match at home (against Kotoko) and impressively won 11 of their 12 matches in the league this season. They have scored 24 at home and conceded 7. Far more impressive, they are unbeaten at home in 2 years and 6 months now. In 180 mins of football (2 games), they are yet to concede a goal at home. In other revelation, Medeama SC have 5 draws in their 12 away matches and lost 7. They have let in 17 and scored 8. In their last 5 matches, Chelsea has 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw whiles Medeama has 1 win, 2 loses and 2 draws.

With the Golden City Park being a dreaded grounds for visiting clubs, we might be seeing Medeama being added to the list of casualties at the hands of Chelsea come Sunday.

BA United   Vs    Aduana FC.

The premier league is almost done and dusted for bottom languishing BA United as they play Aduana football club in a regional derby at the Sunyani Coronation Park. BA United are bottom on the league log with 18 points whiles Aduana is third with 38 points. A whopping 20 points difference between them.

One official of BA United was heard this week placing a curse on the team that whoever, being it the head coach, players, team official or  any board member who allows himself to be compromise by any of the opposing teams base on the fact they are almost relegated with have a score to settle in the spiritual world. This is very bad in association football and should be condemned. Such behaviour and comments should have warranted him to face the wrath of the disciplinary committee and punished severely to serve as deterrent to others but nothing has been done as at now. There is a saying that he who alleges got to proof so we keep our fingers crossed for now as they might be gathering enough evidence to this.

There have been 3 meetings between these two clubs in the league in time past. Aduana has won 2 and lost 1. BA United are yet to score a goal against Aduana in 180 minutes of football. Far more worse scenario, since BA United won 2-1 against Chelsea at home on match day 14, they have gone winless in 10 league games, 900 minutes of football. This is very serious. On the flip side, Aduana have also scored 1 goal in their last 5 away matches.

This match could end in a draw but wont be surprise to see Aduana pick all the three points.

Inter Allies   Vs   Heart of Lions.

Inter Allies will be seeking a fresh start against Ho based Heart of Lions as they saw their eight match unbeaten run come to an end against Aduana FC over the weekend. They will have to regroup and get the ducks in line to get the results coming in once again. This match wont be that easy for both sides especially Lions, who aren't safe on the league log and could see themselves drop from their 13th position to the relegation zone once again. There is pride as stake for both clubs as the Tema stadium will be such a busy grounds for them this weeken

These two clubs have battle it out on 3 occasions. Two has ended in draw whiles Lions have won one. 7 goals has been produced with Inter Allies scoring 3 and conceding 4. The points gab between them is not that wide but their position on the league table is very much fascinating. Allies are 4th with 36 points whiles Lions are 13th with 31 points. So interesting. 5 points gab between them.

At home, Inter Allies are yet to concede in 270 minutes of football (3 matches). Quite a remarkable feat by them. In general, they have conceded ONLY 4 goals at home in their 12 matches played in the league so far. Far more applaudable  feat, Allies have won 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 matches played in the league. Battling Lions on the other hand has won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 matches. Quite dangerously, Lions are the third joint team with Bechem United to concede the highest number of goals in the league so far letting in 31 goals. BA United has more, allowing 37 goals in their nets.

The best results for Lions will be a drawn game but who knows, they could manage a win against all odds as uncertainty surrounding football is incomprehensible.

WA Allstars   Vs  New Edubiase.

Wa Allstars and New Edubiase has battled it out on 11 occasions. Their first ever meeting dates back to 20th Dec, 2009. Both teams have enjoyed 4 wins with 3 ending in stalemate. In these clashes, 19 goals has been produced with Allstars scoring 11 and whiles Edubiase has 8 goals.  New Edubiase are gradually lifting themselves up to escape the slippery edges of relegation. This in effect culminates their performance which saw them edged past the phobians, Hearts of Oak last week Saturday by defeating them two goals to one at the Obuasi Len Clay Park.

Edubiase are 10th on the league table with 33 points and with two points separating 6th placed Allstars, an all out is what is needed by Anthony Kommeh's boys to catch them and be on level points. Sadly, Edubiase is the second team apart from BA United to concede the highest number of goals so far.

Allstars have 1 win in their last 5 matches, drawing 2 and losing 2. Edubiase, impressively has 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw in their last 5 matches. But one herculean task that awaits Edubiase is that,

 Allstars are yet to concede a goal at home in 540 minutes of football (6 matches) after conceding a goal against Inter Allies in their 2-1 win  whiles Edubiase has also failed to score in two outings now (180 minutes).

Edubiase have their own destiny in their hands as a defeat will definitely change their current position on the league table. A very difficult match for both sides but a slim win for Allstars won't be surprising.

Hearts of Oak   Vs  Asante Kotoko.

Old rivalry rekindled.

In Italy, it is called Derby della Madonnina between AC Milan and Inter Milan. It dates back to 1908 with Milan winning 111, drawing 77 and losing 105. In England, Liverpool and Manchester United has produced fierce battles with their first meeting coming in 1894. There have been 119 trophies between them since then. The mention of "Mother of all battles" over a century now talks of Greece most successful clubs in the shape of Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. And in Spain, there is the "El-Classio" between Barcelona and Real Madrid dating back to 1902 with Barcelona winning 105, drawing 56 and losing 92.

In Africa, the meeting between Zamalek and Al Ahly in Egypt has never been short of tension and violence so as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa has produced similar heat and nerve cracking moments. In West Africa, Ghana to be precise, the meeting between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko has produced and continued to produce fire works and charge mood which changes everything in the country in terms of football.

Pundits, connoisseurs, analyst, sports broadcasters and fans has given various names to their clashes. The latest and most common in recent years in papers, on radio and television is the "Ghana's version of El-Classico". But whatever the title is, it promises to be a crucial encounter and a super clash between them this time around base on their league performance this season.

Undoubtedly, the two most successful clubs in Ghana will meet this Sunday on the 2nd of July 2015. The whole of Accra town will come to a standstill so as Ghana as Hearts battles Kotoko in a fight for a breath to sustain life in the league. In our football calender, it is the biggest clash and no doubt it is dabbed category A match by the FA because of the number of followers they command.

As usual, the braggadocio style attain by their supporters has already began. Right from their matches in week 24, the heat and arguments as to who will carry the day come Sunday started. This will be nothing short of a crucial encounter pending their current form in the league and position on the league table. The Ohene Djan sports stadium will see both old and current management and board members from both Kotoko and Hearts in a bit to give morale support to their teams and urge them to victory. This is very remarkable and needs to be commended. All hands on deck for now.

Former Kotoko player and current management chairman, Opoku Nti was speaking to the media this week and made it emphatically clear that he does not recall a season in which both Kotoko and Hearts are meeting in such a manner that a win by one, probably Kotoko, will so-to-say sink Hearts further to relegation. In his playing days for Kotoko and in football management, he can't remember such an incident happening. This is what makes this year's clash much more different from previous ones.

This year's clash will be the 102nd meeting between Hearts and Kotoko as history has it. Hearts has 34 wins whiles Kotoko has 31 with 36 ending in stalemate. Their meetings dates back to 1958 where they first met in Kumasi at Jackson Park. Hearts led Kotoko by 2-4 but the game ended abruptly and was rescheduled. Hearts won the replay by 2-5. In Accra, they have met 52 times with Hearts slightly on top with 15 wins and closely followed by 14 wins for Kotoko whiles 23 has ended in drawn games. The first ever meeting in Accra ended 2-4 in favour of Kotoko on Sunday 16th Nov,1958. In addition, since Ghana started the Premier League system in 1993/1994, they have met 40 times with Hearts of Oak having the lions share of 15 wins whiles Kotoko has 8. 17 has ended in stalemate. In their last 10 matches from 14th March 2010 to 7th Feb 2015, both have 3 wins and 4 ending in a draw with 11 goals being produced. This will be Kotoko's third visit to the capital city this season. They won 2-3 against relegation threaten Great Olympics and lost 3-1 to Liberty Professionals. In contrast, Hearts are yet to win a match against teams from Ashanti Region at their home grounds. They lost 1-2 to New Edubiase and drew 2-2 with league leaders Ashanti Gold. Hearts has played 12 home matches in the league so far. They have won 6, lost 2 and drawn 4. They have scored 19 goals and let in 11. Interestingly, Hearts has conceded the first goal in four matches of their last 5 matches in total. Except Heart of Lions which they managed to score first and won by 4-0, they conceded first against BA United, Hasaacas, Aduana, New Edubiase and lost on all occasions.

Kotoko on the other hand has played 12 league matches as guest this season. They have won 3, lost 5 and drawn 4. They have let in 16 goals and scored 14. One thing gaining grounds with Kotoko is that they are yet to score in their last two outings. Drew goalless with Medeama and lost by a goal to nil against WAFA.

Well, with these, missing this super clash and epic encounter will be unpardonable. There is everything to play for in this match as both are relegation threatened. If not, sit behind your TV set and in the wake of the power fluctuation, get to a spot or a corner where there is power to catch a glimpse of it. Better still stay glue to your radio set for commentary as Kotoko and Hearts  dazzles us with skills, tenacity, agility and a beautiful kind of football on Sunday.

This is not to say Hearts and Kotoko's clash will be the only match to be played on Sunday. There will be seven other league matches across the various league centers but as big as their clash has been in previous years, it will always overshadow other league matches. This is one thing we have to humbly accept.

BA United will welcome Aduana FC in a regional derby at the Sunyani Coronation Park whiles Berekum Chelsea will be giving league leaders Ashanti Gold a hot chase in a bit to unseat them as they play at home to Medeama SC. Other matches include WAFA playing at home to Bechem United whiles Wa base Allstars welcome New Edubiase. Inter Allies who ended their eight run unbeaten matches to Aduana last week will seek a revival against another relegation threatened club Heart of Lions at the Tema Astro turf whiles Hasaacas plays Olympics at home.

Heart of Lions  Vs   Wa Allstars.

-These two sides has met 15 times in the league dating back to 16th March, 2008.

-Lions have won 8, lost 4 and drawn 3.

-25 goals has been produced in their encounters.

-Lions indeed, have the lions share of 14 goals and conceding 11.

-Heart of Lions have played Wa Allstars 7 times at home in the league. They have won 4, lost 1 & drawn 2, scoring 6 & conceding 3.

-Allstars are currently 5th with 35 points while Lions are 14th with 28 points (7 points difference)

The First Capital Plus Premier League bounces back and enters match day 24 with tensed and mouthwatering encounters. With 7 matches to go, each and every club will like to put its house in order to avoid relegation. The title chase is still on as it is still unclear who is favorite to lift the league trophy.

Berekum Chelsea, who is second on the league log, will travel to Bechem to play Bechem United in a regional derby. An Ashanti derby beckons as Asante Kotoko will be engaging Ashanti Gold at the Baba Yara stadium. The biggest clash this weekend as Ashgold will want to extend their lead at the top after seeing it cut to two points on Wednesday whiles Kotoko, whose performance has been sketchy will want to begin a fresh start with a convincing win against the miners.

Other matches include Hearts of Oak, who will battle New Edubiase at the Obuasi Len Clay Park. Hearts, who is above their arch rivals Asante Kotoko on the league table, will pray their impressive display against Heart of Lions on Wednesday continues. The Tarkwa Muaves, Medeama, will travel to engage Olympics at the nations Wembley and try to end their win less streak in away matches. The Carl Reindolf Park will also be busy as George Lamptey's Liberty face off against high flying WAFA. Heart of Lions will be engaging Wa Allstars at the Kpando stadium whiles Aduana battle it out with Tema based Inter Allies. Finally, at the Sekondi sports stadium, Yusif  Basigi's boys will attempt in picking all the three points against bottom wrecking BA United who is all but set to kiss the league goodbye.

Below are statistics and permutations of matches coming off this weekend.

New Edubiase   Vs   Hearts of Oak.

-These two sides has met on 11 occasions dating back to 8th Nov, 2009.

-Edubiase has won 3, lost 6 and drawn 2.

-There has been 27 goals produced in their clashes with Edubiase scoring 10 and conceding 17.

-Edubiase has all the bragging rights as they defeated Hearts at their own grounds by 1-2 in the first round.

-This will be Hearts third visit to the Ashanti Region in this seasons league matches. Won 1 (against Kotoko) and drew 1 (against Ashanti Gold). They are yet to taste defeat.

-New Edubiase, on the other hand are yet to win and score a goal against Greater Accra teams at home this season. Drew goalless with Olympics and Liberty.

-Edubiase has 6 wins out of their 11 matches played at home. In addition, they have 4 draws and 1 defeat, scoring 17 and conceding 10. Hearts on the flip side has 1 win, 4 draws & 5 loses, scoring 7 and conceding 14 in their 11 outings.

-Edubiase are yet to concede a goal at home in their last 4 matches.

Olympics   vs   Medeama SC.

-Olympics is 15th on the league table with 26 points whiles Medeama are 7th with 33 points (7 points difference).

-Medeama won the first leg at Tarkwa by 3 goals to 2.

-Medeama SC has played clubs in the Greater Accra region on 5 occasions. They have won 1, drawn 1 & lost 3. They have also played 3 matches away, lost 1 (against Inter Allies by 2-0) and drawn 2  (against Hearts and Liberty).

PREMIER LEAGUE.

1. Hearts of Oak, all hands on deck now.

Continental clubs masters, Accra Hearts of Oak saw off their counterpart Hearts of Lions at the Cape Coast stadium on match day 23 in a grand style. Hearts were given one match ban by the FA for indiscipline acts shown in their fixture against Hasaacas.

Going into this match, Hearts were 14th on the league log with 26 points. There was everything to play for in this fixture. Lions on the other hand were also battling for a proper stand on the league table and were willing to throw everything in to win this clash. A lose will drop them back into the relegation zone. Fortunately for them, Hearts were playing away from their favourite grounds so they needed to take advantage of that.

Heart of Lions were left stunned as they picked 4 balls from the back of their nets in the first half. It took Selasi Adjei as early as sixth minutes to put Hearts in front, followed by Togolese international, Foovi Aguidi with a brace and Eric Kumi finishing the day with the fourth goal.

Many journalists and even a section of their supporters were very much surprised at the score line pending their poor run of results chalked in this season’s ongoing league. The last time they won by the same huge margin was back in 8th May,2013. They defeated R.T.U in Tamale by four goals to nil (Gilbert Fiamenyo and Mahatma Otto scored the goals). We could attribute this impressive display by the players to the presence of former management and board members who were at the Cape Coast stadium. Alhaji Hearts, Nii Ayi Bonte (Thomas Okine), Harry Zakkor and other members whose presence seemed to have awaken the never say die spirit from its slumber. Reports gathered after the match has it that, the players received a four thousand Ghana cedis right on the field by former board member Thomas Okine. Is an all inclusive affair now, hands and thoughts put together to help bring back the glory days. Is that the current board and management members can't handle situations like this ? Well, the subsequent matches will show if indeed the tables are being turned around in their favour.

2. Berekum Chelsea, now a real title contenders.

Having slaughtered Kumasi Asante Kotoko 0-3 at their backyard  Baba Yara stadium, a strong signal is being sent to league leaders Ashanti Gold that the league is not yet wrapped up as pundits seems to be making a case for them.

Chelsea are enjoying a purple patch as they have three wins in their last three matches,nine out of nine points. They are also yet to taste a defeat in their last 5 matches, since week 19. Chelsea have had it own problems since the start of the league and were deducted points and declared losers in every match played by the FA for failing to observe certain financial obligations in the sale of Solomn Asante to TP Mazembe. Until the issues were resolved, they were bottom on the league table and now a real title force, posing threats to league leaders Ashanti Gold.

Chelsea is the highest goal scoring club with 32 goals. Forward Kofi Owusu and attacking midfielder Stephen Baffour has scored more than 15 goals between them and are the best pair so far in the league. With the steam Chelsea is gathering whiles Ashgold are taking their foot off the pedal, the league could go down to the wire. If things stays the same as it is, Chelsea will presumably have the last laugh as they will be welcoming the league leaders Ashgold to the golden city park.

3. Ashanti Gold, almost a state of déjà vu.

If there is one memory Ashanti Gold football club wouldn't wish happening once again, then it will be the league loss in 2009. A painful  scenario and a heart braking feeling, losing a league title after leading the league for most part of the season and no other than a new entrant Aduana FC, who is yet to find its rhythm in the league.

CEO Kwadwo Fiano who was speaking to Nhyira Power Sports host Bright Kankam Boadu last week said they lost the league in 2009 because they had their eyes only fixed on Hearts of Oak which made Aduana took them by surprise. He also said that they are  leaving no stone unturn as their eyes are widely open this time around.

But 2009 league season mood seems to be happening. They have four points out of a possible 9 in their last three matches. This is  really causing a stir at Obuasi. Reports gathered around Obuasi after their goalless draw with New Edubiase indicates the supporters were so furious with the team and coach Bash as affectionately called. A feat they would wish not happening. This is the time coach Bashiru Hayford have to prove critics wrong for his hugely criticized second round league matches. With seven matches to go, the onus lies on them to pick up the pieces from where they have left it as they have a second round match to play with second placed Berekum Chelsea who have cut their lead to just two points.

4. Weekly away goals, a problem.

Week 23 matches ended across various centers producing 14 goals as in week 1, 3 & 14. One problem in the league is, visiting clubs has failed to whack in the goals on weekly basis despite having more  100 goals in total.

From week 1 to week 23, no week has produced up to 10 and more goals. This is very frightening I should say. The highest weekly goals recorded are 8 goals, recorded in week 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 22. The lowest goals recorded is 1. Week 1 and week 23 has produced the lowest goals, 1 each, followed by week 4 and 13 with 2 goals. Week 5, 12 & 20 has also produced 3 goals. Are the strikers missing their spots when they travel away from home. Are they frightened by the supporters or they fail to travel along with their scoring boots. The said issue could be true as the leading goal scorer who has 15 goals, Nathaniel Ohene Asamoah has failed to score in more than 5 outings now.

6 Things We learned From Week 21 Of Ghana Premier League

Here are six (6) significant things we learnt from Week 21 of this season's ongoing Ghana Premier League.


1. Ashanti Gold, standing on a solid ground

The Miners, as they are affectionately called have really stood on the ground and maintained their position on the league log after matchday 21. They are enjoying a purple patch this season, being the league leaders for a chunk part of the season. Surely, anything below winning the league this season will forever be cemented bad luck to their quest of annexing the league since 1995. Their CEO, Kwadwo Fiano and coach Bashiru Hayford's name will forever remain on the lips of the AshGold supporters for all the bad reasons.

As it stands now, AshGold are the only club safe from relegation. First with 40 points out of a possible 63 representing 63%. That is very much impressive, more than half of the required points. From the 4th place team Aduana, to the the last team on the log B.A United, any club is bound for relegation. Points amassed by clubs are so close in such a way that a defeat slips one club to about 2 to 3 places down on the league and vice versa. As in the case of Aduana in Week 19. From 2nd to 6th position when they lost a game to Chelsea. Ashanti Gold have really got the ducks in a row for now and with 9 matches to go, they are the only club safe from relegation and look set to wrap up the league.

2. Away win; chasing a tail

Visiting clubs have done all that they can to win matches away from home but to no avail. A quick run through matches played by clubs as visiting teams as to the number of wins chalked is very much disturbing and sickening. 17 (10%) wins only. I had to challenge this, went back to matches played since matchday 1 and do the counting myself. I was left scratching my head as the figure was correct and leaned back gently in my chair. Surprised!! That would be an understatement. Questions began running through my head. Is it that visiting clubs aren't doing enough or clubs playing at home are much stronger or the standard of our league is very low or it goes beyond these questions. A lot of "or's" to ask. 113 wins at home as against 17 away wins is so scary a difference to look and compare.

Kotoko and Ashanti Gold have enjoyed the lion's share of away wins. 3 wins for each followed by Edubiase with 2. The continental club masters, Hearts of Oak have only 1 (against Kotoko) out of 9. Very bad for the Phobian family. Clubs such as Brekum Chelsea, Liberty, B.A United, Bechem United, Medeama SC and Heart of Lions are yet to win an away match. Clubs need to put their acts together and challenge hosting clubs for all the three points at stake.

3. BA United, pulling all the stops

One of the shocking results this weekend was when BA United traveled all the way to pick a point from a dreaded ground, the Wa Park. Little did pundits and analysts give BA United a dog's chance against Wa All Stars. This might have shown that things somewhere went wrong along the line for them. Being at the bottom of the league since matchday 7 (150 days) shows they started on quite a good note but somewhere along the line; bought into their own woes which in turn is eating them up.

Bottom on the league log with 17 points and with 9 matches to go, a possible 27 points at stake. BA United could take the bull by the horn or pull the teeth of mean lion and miraculously fight for all the 27 points which will make it 44 points at the end of the league if there are any miracles in football.

Getting a point from Wa shows they are ready to pull all the stops or as it were, a flash in the pan kind of performance. They might have done themselves an injustice by letting some games they could have won slip away. Subsequent matches will tell the full length of their tales.

4. Is blood, sweat and tears thingy for both Kotoko and Hearts

Both Hearts and Kotoko require a lot of hardwork and energy to bring back their glory days. For the past 10 years, both clubs are yet to enjoy sound season with no unending series of management, players, and coach qualms. It looks like these two clubs are siamese twins, just when one's problem seem to be dying out, the others' resurfaces. They've got a lot to do to be able to stamp an absolute authority on the domestic front once more and probably Africa at large.

Kotoko's problem is quite different from Hearts. David Duncan took over Kotoko when the season had already begun. No pre-season and new crop of players to work with. Whether the players suit his style of play or not, he has to make do with them. 5 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses in 11 matches is somehow good, given his caliber. Kotoko’s problem primarily has to do with peaking at the wrong time in the season. They won more than 15 matches during pre-season which shows they could have been battling AshGold for the league title had the league started early enough. They got to the climax and as the law of karma has it they are descending coolly for all the wrong reasons. Tiredness is also having a telling effect on the players.

On the other hand, Herbert Addo took over pre-season and transfer of players. Hearts' impressive display in the Confederation Cup speaks volume of a man with a lot of experience who needs time. Sadly enough, Hearts isn’t a club to be experimenting. Instant results and hit are what the Phobian fraternity need at this time. One thing that is lucid, they should understand that they need to rebuild from the scratch. It takes sweat and blood, putting pride aside and aim for a better team in the future. Honors achieved by the 64 battalions were not on a silver platter.

5. David Duncan now beginning to find some rhythm

David Duncan’s last 4 matches in all competitions have seen him conceding only 1 goal and that was against Bechem United. He has kept 3 clean sheets which is very encouraging. Against league leaders AshGold, Hearts and Medeama were his last three clean sheets. Duncan has been in the league for so long a time to be able to handle pressure like this. He has shown with clubs such as AshGold, Olympics and Hearts of Oak that given the time and space to work, he will deliver. As ace journalist Jeffrey Asare says “grinding results in times like this is what matters”. That is what matters for Kotoko and Duncan as at now. It even means to win ugly many a time. The ultimate is to get results and get the team moving on.

6. Ghana league, now gaining some attention

In recent times, statistics about clubs and ongoing matches played are documented to serve as reference point. In time past, first and second half goals wouldn’t have been known. The FA’s site is such a bad channel for all these. Number of penalties, red and yellow cards, players and coach statistics wouldn’t have been known. Statistics is part of the modern game and makes it interesting when watching matches. It guides us as to what will happen.

Here's the continuation of the statistical preview of Week 21 matches of the Ghana Premier League. (Read Week 21) 

Hearts of Oak  vs Hasaacas.

Sekondi based Hasaacas formed in 1931will travel to Accra to lock horns with the continental club-masters, Heartsof Oak on matchday 21. Yussif Basigi's boys have a huge task on their hands as they have to rewrite their scripts again in away matches given they've traveled 1 year,7 months and some days without an away win. This is quite bad for association football and very much unpleasant for their supporters to go more than one year without a win away from home. But one could also argue that, it shows how strong other clubs are at their home grounds and unwilling to drop even a single point. But the fact is, other clubs have won away from home. So why isn't Hasaacas following suit? This remains a question to be answered by them.

Herbert Addo's Hearts of Oak who defeated Kotoko on Wednesday via penalties to lift the President Cup will by all means pull the strings once again against Hasaacas who are struggling to win a match away from home. That will serve as morale booster to defeat the 9th placed Hasaacas and push themselves to 29 points on the league table. Monitoring radio today, tempers looks quite calm on the part of Phobia fans as they termed Kotoko's defeat  'a sweet one' thus, minimising pressure on Herbert Addo. This will somehow give Herbert a sigh of relief as he would get all the maximum concentration to win against Hasaacas.

These two clubs have three meetings between them from 2013 to date. Each club will be seeking their second win as they have won one apiece with Hasaacas scoring 5 and conceding 3 goals. Hasaacas have impressively won 3, lost 1 and drawn 1 of their last five matches whiles Hearts of Oak have won only 1 of their last five matches, losing 1 and drawing 3.

With the league beginning to take shape with 10 matches to go, Hearts will happily make it 6 wins against Hasaacas out of 11 matches played at home drawing 5 and losing 1. Hearts will be without their influential player Owusu Bempah because he received a red card over the weekend against BA United. Foovi Aguidi, Soulama Abdoulai, PaulAcquah, Philip Boampong and others will be standing tall against Fredrick Quayson's side, Hasaacas. A convincing win for Hearts is what is expected on Sunday.


Ashanti Gold  vs Aduana Stars.

All roads will be leading to Obuasi and probably come to a standstill as Ashanti Gold meet Dormaa based Aduana Stars for this crucial encounter. One of the topliners for the weekend,will be tensed, as there have already been some clashes amongst them in time past. Interestingly, AshGold is first on the log with 37 points whiles Aduana stay inconsistently at the second position with 32 points with 5 points separating them. A win for AshGold will further extend it to 7 whiles a loss at Obuasi will reduce it to 2 points.

There has been 9 clashes between them with no one showing superiority over the other. Each club has 3 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws, producing 15 goals. Ashgold scoring 8 whiles Aduana has 7. The Miners have won the highest number of matches in the league so far and have picked 24 points out of a possible 30 at home drawing two of their 10 matches.

Ashgold who won three straight matches in the first round, a feat that is yet to be chalked by any club in the league as at now, will possibly like to enjoy a double over Aduana as their last visit to the Obuasi Len clay park ended in 2-0 defeat. To my utter dismay, the last 8 matches Aduana have played as guests in the league have all ended in defeats. They have won only 1 and drawn 1 of their last away 10 matches.

Pundits and analysts who have come out with series of permutations and outcomes say, the league is AshGold's to lose. The coming fixtures will determine if they (Ashgold) will be able to lift their first league trophy in 20 years now after winning it in 1995.

The game will be very difficult for both sides. Fans in and around Obuasi are expected to troop to the Len Clay Park to witness this encounter. Aduana who are stubborn so-to-say and proven a hard nut to crack in matches like this will give Ashanti Gold a big run for their money but a victory for the Miners is quite assured.


WAFA  vs Heart of Lions.

WAFA have this season played one of  the beautiful football in the league so far. This kind of performances has eluded the league for far too long.  No wonder they were 2nd on the league log after the first round.

WAFA await struggling Heart of Lions at the Sogakope Park in a regional derby. Lions who are currently 14th on the league table with 25 points will see no danger looming as there are 10 matches to go with only 5 points separating them and the 5th placed team, WAFA. Yussif Aboubakar's Lions will have to go all out at  least to secure a point as they drew goalless in the first round. And then again, banned one game at home and fined one thousand Ghana cedis by the FA for failing to control crowd violence in their match against Bechem United. Chelsea play struggling New Edubiase this weekend. Fuseini Nuhu who has 9 goals for Lions seems to be carrying the team on his shoulders alone whiles other teammates aren't pulling their weights together apparently.

These two clubs have 9 encounters between them with Chelsea winning 4, drawing 2 and losing 3. 16 goals have been produced in their encounters with Chelsea scoring 9 and allowing in 7 goals.

These stats look scary and very unpleasant for Edubiase who could have chosen any other day to meet them than their 200th game on Sunday. I'm afraid but Chelsea look set to win their 86th match in all.
